Agenda Items to be Discussed:
Thank you to Ennio Cipani for taking notes!
Please note that this is a combination of meetings held at the appointed time and informal gatherings of SIG members.
- Call for items to be added to the agenda
- Pat Williams has asked to be removed as co-chair of the SIG. No elections were held this year, and Chris will continue as the SIG chair.
- Collaboration with the TBA area chair
- Update on the State of the SIG – discussion of last year’s action items
- Facebook Page
- Website – a work in progress that needs more publicity. Kristin Lafferty, a student at University of Delaware, has volunteered to help with the website
- Listserv – over 300 members on the listserv from all walks of professional life
- Presentations and Scholarship – several symposia were created via the TBA listserv
- What were our successes?
- More tracking of membership – there are 49 officially registered members of the TBA. About 6 are international members. This is a fraction of what we think is out there, and we would like more participation
- Presentations at ABAI – several presentations, and the expo is always a success. Pat handed out cards and placed cards is all kinds of areas promoting the listserv and the TBA group.
- Facebook group membership – over 150 Facebook group members. Chris tries to keep the messaging to a minimum and the discussion board is available for collaboration
- Continued listserv participation with few flames
- What do we need to improve?
- Data Collection
- At this point, we do not have a very accurate accounting of our membership.
- This is important for our reports to ABAI – we are behavior analysts without data!!!!!
- Chris would like to have a one-stop shop for membership and registration (not unlike the contextualpsychology.org website) – this will make registration and tracking much more efficient overall
- A wikipedia-like site where BA’s can post materials was suggested as well
- Revisit the Mission Statement
- Pat and Chris stated that we need to first re-visit the group’s mission statement before moving forward on initiatives.
- Chris will ask a few members to work on the mission statement
- Needs assessment of the membership
- Ennio is especially concerned (as are Pat and Chris) that we were trying to do too many things.
- Overarching requests – resources on the website and to continue the TBA-L
- This will allow us to tailor our activities to the needs of the members
- Actual participation
- Many ideas were proposed, and many were accomplished
- However, some initiatives have fallen by the wayside
- A needs assessment may help us tailor our activities to the membership
- Chris will also ask specific people to complete tasks, such as the mission statement.
- However, volunteers are always welcome
- Website and resources
- Chris has created a website – www.teachbehavioranalysis.com - however few people were aware that it was there
- Chris needs to market the website more strategically to members
- Links to the ABAI syllabi bank were suggested, as this is in the process of being updated
- Links to YouTube videos with accurate portrayals and behavior analysis
- It was also suggested that we partner with a BCBA preparation program to help get resources on the web
- Data Collection
- Action Planning
- Chris will ask specific people to work on:
- Data collection and monitoring
- Needs assessment
- TBA program area recommendations
- Information and resources on the website
- (Chris will contact people directly in the next two weeks or so)
- Chris will also consult with Eric Fox re: the website design and suggestions as well as a marketing expert to help promote the SIG
- Chris will ask specific people to work on:
- Additional Discussion
- We had a representative attend the area program chair meeting.
- Jessica (last name?), the TBA program coordinator, was very open to collaboration
- She requested that we send ideas for the invited speakers for next year
- We stated that we would be willing to publicize TBA-related events on the website
- If you are on the fence about whether your presentation is TBA or not, please go with TBA!
Please send any comments or action items to chrisbarthold@bartholdautism.com (Thank you!)
Respectfully submitted,
Christine Hoffner Barthold, TBA Chair
